Our Experience at Hollywood Studios:

My husband and I attended the event at Hollywood Studios on a Friday night and had a blast! We arrived at the park around 7pm and just enjoyed walking around until the event started. We had dinner and drinks at the Brown Derby Lounge (our favorite!) while we waited for the crowds to leave.

We walked around and started to notice the park slowly getting quieter. By the time the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular fireworks show rolled around at 9:30pm, the park was already cleared out! We walked up as the show started and got a viewing spot front and center – even though the park was still open to the general public.

As soon as the fireworks ended, we headed straight to meet the Star Wars characters. We had never met them before and were so excited we were able to walk right up and meet BB-8, Chewbacca and Kylo Ren.

Meet and greet with BB-8!!

From there, we were able to hit all of the rides once through. We rode Rock and Roller Coaster (front row, of course), Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers (first time ever!), Toy Story Mania (I won) and Star Tours! Tower of Terror was closed, which was a huge bummer for us.

The only ride we waited significantly for was Slinky Dog Dash, which took 25 minutes. Honestly, I was a little surprised we had to wait that long, based on what I had heard from people. It’s hard when you have such a limited amount of time to spend that long on one ride, but it was still worth it.

During the night, we enjoyed our Mickey ice cream bars and strolling around the near empty park. That’s one of my favorite things to do at Disney – just enjoy the parks while they’re peaceful and quiet. And that’s exactly what we did!

Overall, we give this event a two thumbs up! Worth the extra money for just the two of us (we also have the AP discount). We would love to try it at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom!

Restaurant Review: Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

Rating:

Location: Hollywood Studios

At the Sci-Fi Drive-In Theater at Hollywood Studios, you step inside to feel like you’re outside again! This drive in movie theater is set in the rolling hills of Hollywood in the 1950s.

Sit back and relax inside your “car” while you watch old sci-fi movie clips and cartoons. Your waiter will come to your car window to take your order – you can’t go wrong with their burgers and shakes!

What we like:

Hollywood Studios doesn’t have many good sit down restaurant options. This is the only one our entire family really enjoys. It’s great to sit in the AC and get a break from the heat. The food is yummy – everyone can can find something they like!

Things to note:

This is not a social lunch – you’re sitting watching the old movies from your car or table. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your group! If everyone is tired, it’s a great break spot to just sit and relax, no talking required 😉

WDW Park Planners Tip:

Request to sit in a car – it’s worth the wait! There are regular tables as well, but the car really makes the experience. The cars have three rows of two, so a family of 6 would fill a car. If you have more than 6, you group may be split up. If you have less than 6, you likely will have other guests in your car sitting in front or behind you!

Best Break Spots in Hollywood Studios

Days at Disney World are long and tiring, which is why having a few “break spots” in the parks is the key to making every minute magical! These are three of our favorite break spots at Hollywood Studios…

1. Trolley Car Cafe (Starbucks) – Coffee break

Right at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard, this Starbucks hot spot is the perfect pick me up. They have the standard Starbucks menu, and some super cute Disney/Starbucks mugs!

2. Baseline Taphouse – Adult beverage break

This new spot next to Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is a great addition to Hollywood Studios. Incredible outdoor seating and a great beer selection make it the ideal adult break spot.

3. Muppet Vision 3D – Kids and parents AC break

While we actually enjoy the Muppet Vision 3D show itself, our family is also guilty of using this show as our nap time. Sitting in a dark theater in the AC for 25 minutes is perfect for a much needed power-nap. You can rest, and the kids will love it!

Try these spots out on your next trip to Walt Disney World and let us know what you think!
